Professional Distinction: Staff Profile, Mr. Svetozar Marusic

We are proud to introduce you to our Professional Basketball and PHE Teacher, Svetozar Marusic. The initial steps Svetozar took in his earlier career were made in BC Torlak in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. There, he had the privilege to compete at multiple levels and the opportunity to play with wonderful people and cooperate with the greats of world basketball, such as coach Zoran Sretenovic.
After his sports career, Svetozar enrolled at the University of Sports and Physical Education in Belgrade, where he completed his bachelors and masters degree with the highest of honours. Inspired by wonderful professors like Dr. Vladimir Koprivica, Svetozar continued his journey as a coach in the field of recreation, where he gained practical knowledge in the fields of psychology, physiology, and sports anatomy.
From the field of recreation, he went to the field of professional sports as a performance coach of the womens basketball club Partizan, and in parallel cooperated with individual athletes in the field of boxing, tennis, athletics and volleyball, where he gained knowledge in the field of performance and injury prevention.
After Svetozar’s coaching career, he started working as a physical education teacher in the UAE (Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi). Working with KS3 and IGSCE students gave him an excellent chance to promote physical activity and healthy habits among students. Svetozar was also the Duke of Edinburgh International Award coordinator and
ran several after school sports, including volleyball, basketball, boxing and fitness. These extra-curricular activities were an excellent opportunity to establish an instant good rapport and engage fully with the students as well as to provide an individualised approach to sports. Additionally qualified as a swimming teacher, Svetozar has shown great interests in continuing to improve his skills and understanding of teaching and learning for children.
