Healthy Self-portraits: Brookes Moscow Students Blend Creativity, Character, and Connectivity in the Kitchen
At Brookes Moscow, we believe that creativity is not just confined to the art room – it can flourish anywhere, even in the kitchen! Year 5s recent Art lesson linked to the Unit of Inquiry, 'Body Systems', beautifully demonstrated how our three core values – Creativity, Character, and Connectivity – come together to create unique learning experiences.
Students were challenged to create self-portraits on tortillas using only fruits and vegetables. This innovative task required them to think outside the box, applying their artistic skills to an unconventional medium. The results were nothing short of extraordinary!
Some students chose to depict real-life characters, connecting their creations to their current unit of inquiry. Others let their imaginations run wild, crafting whimsical faces that showcased their personal style and humor. Each self-portrait became a reflection of the student's character, expressing their individuality and perspective.
This activity exemplifies how we at Brookes Moscow encourage our students to:
- Embrace Creativity: By using everyday items in unexpected ways, students learn to approach problems with innovation and originality.
- Build Character: The task challenged students to express themselves and make decisions about their artistic choices, fostering confidence and self-awareness.
- Foster Connectivity: Students connected their art to their academic studies, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of learning at Brookes Moscow.
