Curriculum Overview

One School. Many Futures.

At Brookes Moscow, we believe the strongest education is one that does not limit a child’s possibilities.

Children grow, change and discover new interests over time. Our role is to guide and support them from their earliest years, when curiosity and confidence are just forming, through to the moment they are ready to make meaningful decisions about their future. Wherever that future may lead, our curriculum is designed to keep our students' options open, transitions smooth and standards high.

We offer a carefully structured education that combines internationally recognised programmes with support for national academic routes — all within one school community.

Kindergarten: A Confident Start (IEYC)

In our Kindergarten, children follow the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC).

This play-based, research-informed curriculum creates a secure and nurturing start to school life. Learning is built around exploration, relationships and real-world experiences, helping children develop early language, numeracy, independence and social skills in a natural and age-appropriate way.

IEYC lays the foundations not only for academic learning, but also for confidence, resilience and a genuine love of discovery.

Elementary School: Learning That Connects (IPC)

In Elementary School, students follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

IPC combines clear academic expectations with engaging, topic-based learning. Students build strong subject knowledge while developing the ability to think independently, work collaboratively and understand the world beyond the classroom.

This balance between structure and creativity allows children to thrive academically while remaining curious, motivated and confident learners.

Middle School: Growing Capability and Independence (IMYC)

During Middle School, students follow the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).

IMYC is specifically designed for early adolescence. Learning is organised around meaningful concepts that connect subjects and deepen understanding, while placing equal value on academic progress, wellbeing and personal development.

At this stage, students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning and to develop the skills they will need for more demanding academic study.

High School (Pre-AP): International Qualifications (IGCSE)

In High School, students may follow a programme that includes preparation for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

IGCSEs are internationally recognised academic qualifications, typically taken between the ages of 14 and 16. They provide a strong academic foundation across core subjects and are widely accepted as preparation for senior programmes and future study.

This stage focuses on building academic confidence, depth of understanding and readiness for more specialised choices in the final years of school.

High School: Flexible Routes to the Future

A-Levels
A-Levels allow students to focus in depth on a small number of subjects over the final two years of school. This route supports students with clear academic interests and a desire to specialise.

A-Levels are well regarded by universities in the UK and internationally and remain a trusted preparation for higher education.

Advanced Placement (AP)
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are developed by the College Board in the United States and give students the opportunity to study university-level material while still at school.

AP is valued for its academic rigour and flexibility. Strong results may support university applications worldwide and, in some cases, allow students to enter higher education with advanced standing.

Brookes.RUS: Russian Education in an International Environment

Alongside our international curriculum, Brookes Moscow offers Brookes.RUS, a developing programme designed for families who wish to maintain access to the Russian education system within an international school environment.

This blended pathway combines the structure and academic rigour of the Russian national curriculum with modern, interactive teaching approaches that reflect Brookes Moscow’s educational values.

Brookes.RUS begins in the elementary school years and develops progressively as students move through the school. The programme supports Russian language learning and key academic subjects aligned with national requirements, with preparation for Russian state examinations at the appropriate stages.

Students build strong foundations in Russian Language, Mathematics, Literature, Science and other core subjects, while also engaging in hands-on, creative learning that develops functional literacy, critical thinking and confidence.

By integrating national curriculum support within an international setting, Brookes.RUS allows students to benefit from a global education while keeping Russian academic pathways open — without having to choose one over the other.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is designed for students aged 5 to 11 and offers a rich, engaging, and academically rigorous learning experience throughout the Primary years. At Brookes Moscow, the IPC builds on children’s natural curiosity through thematic, cross-curricular learning that supports both academic progress and personal growth.

The curriculum prepares students to thrive in a globalised world by balancing subject knowledge, personal development, and international understanding within a clear and structured framework.

What is the IPC?

A Thematic and Holistic Primary Curriculum

The IPC is a comprehensive, research-informed curriculum built around exciting thematic units that connect learning across subjects. This approach helps students see meaning in what they learn, apply knowledge in different contexts, and develop a deeper understanding of key concepts.

Learning is carefully structured to ensure progression in all subject areas while remaining engaging, relevant, and motivating for young learners.

How learning works in the IPC

The IPC Learning Process

Each IPC unit follows a structured yet flexible learning process designed to deepen understanding and engagement:

Entry Point
A memorable and exciting activity that launches the unit and sparks curiosity.

Knowledge Harvest
Students share what they already know and identify questions they want to explore.

Research, Record & Reflect
The core learning phase, where students engage in subject-specific and interdisciplinary activities, building knowledge and skills.

Exit Point
A celebratory event where students present and reflect on their learning journey, often involving the wider school community.

Example IPC Unit: Forces

In the Forces unit, students explore the world of pushes and pulls that shape everyday life. The unit begins with an engaging Entry Point challenge, where students design and test marble runs, introducing them to concepts such as motion and friction.

Through hands-on investigations, students explore air resistance and gravity in Science, design working mechanisms in Technology, and examine natural forces such as earthquakes and glaciers in Geography. In History, they analyse the impact of key inventions, including the wheel, on human development.

The unit concludes with a Forces Fair, where students demonstrate their experiments and models, explaining the scientific principles behind them to the school community.
